B. Annex B: radiological protection quantities in the context of prolonged exposures
نویسنده
چکیده
(B1) The principal physical quantities used by the Commission are the activity of an amount of radionuclide and the absorbed dose from radiation in matter. The absorbed dose is weighted for radiological protection purposes, resulting in a number of relevant dosimetric quantities. (B2) Activity: The activity, A, of an amount of a radionuclide is de®ned as (ICRP 1991a, paragraph 37): `The average number of spontaneous nuclear transformations taking place per unit time. Its unit is the reciprocal second, sÿ1, given, for this purpose, the special name becquerel (Bq).'

Age-time patterns of radiogenic cancer risk: their nature and likely explanations.
It is important for both radiation protection and scientific reasons to understand the age-time patterns of radiation cancer risk. This is surprisingly difficult even for acute exposures and much more so for prolonged exposures. I shall provide current information on this for solid cancers among atomic-bomb survivors, pointing out some of the difficulties in description and interpretation. I sh...
متن کاملRadiological indices of technologically enhanced naturally occurring radionuclides: a PIXE approach.
This paper reports an assessment of the level of the radionuclides (40)K, (232)Th and (238)U in environmental soil samples (process waste), and hence their calculated dose rates. For this purpose, the radioactivity from three natural radionuclides was determined in tin process-waste samples in Jos, Nigeria. This work is based on the particle induced x-ray emission (PIXE) approach, devoid of the...
متن کاملبررسی دوام آنتی بادی anti-HBs و خاطره ایمنی واکسن هپاتیت B ، 18 سال پس از واکسیناسیون دوره نوزادی در دانشجویان دانشگاه تهران
Background The duration of infantile hepatitis B vaccination-induced immunity is still unknown. We assessed antibody persistence and immunological memory to hepatitis B 18 years after vaccination during infancy in Iranian young adults at risk of hepatitis B virus infection due to behavioral or occupational exposures. Methods This study was conducted on 395 freshman students of with a history of...
متن کاملبررسی جنبههای اپیدمیولوژیک مواجهه شغلی با ویروسهای هپاتیت B، هپاتیت C و HIV در پرسنل حرف پزشکی و عوامل موثر بر آن
Background: Health care workers (HCWs) are at substantial risk of acquiring bloodborne pathogen infections through contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials. The main objectives of this study were to determine the epidemiological characteristics of occupational exposure to blood/body fluids, related risk factors of such exposure, and hepatitis B vaccination status among HCWs...
متن کاملCytokinesis blocked micronucleus (CB-MN) assay for biodosimetry of high dose accidental exposure
Background: Most of the cytogenetic dosimetry, except Premature Chromosome Condensation assay, saturates at 6 Gy. Present studies are aimed to assess feasibility of simple CB-MN assay for prescreening of high dose accidental exposures. Materials and Methods: Human peripheral blood lymphocytes from two donors were gamma irradiated to different doses ranging from 0-15Gy, cultured for 72 h. Cytoch...
